I tried touching the sky – and all we got is orange gauze, 2024, site-specific & in three parts, 460 × 310 cm, food colouring, buttermilk and soy yoghurt on window glass
In recent years, severe forest fires across Canada, North America, and Europe have turned the sky increasingly orange. Over five days, I painted the windows of Room 123 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf to approximate this phenomenon. Like a sunset, fine particles from the fires refract sunlight into layered shades of orange — a colour I sought to render with buttermilk, soy yoghurt and food colouring. An orange that will grow richer with every passing year.
